The Malaghan Institute of Medical Research is New Zealand’s leading independent biomedical research institute, with a focus on breakthrough discoveries in immunology and immunotherapy. We have around 100 staff committed to finding cures for diseases using the body’s own immune system. 


Our Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell group is dedicated to providing improved cancer immunotherapies, with a current focus on understanding the signalling pathways induced by different costimulatory domains.


We are seeking a driven and talented Research Officer to join this high-performing team, to contribute to varied projects, including a clinical trial, on a fixed-term (1 year) full-time basis.This exciting opportunity is designed for a Masters or experienced BSc graduate with an expertise in cell culture, flow cytometry and molecular biology. Our ideal candidate will be proactive, have a scrupulous attention to detail and will fit easily into a friendly and collaborative team.


Knowledge and Experience

  • MSc in Biomedical Science, or equivalent experience of relevance in the biomedical field.
  • Sound practical experience in cell culture and flow cytometry are preferred, and experience with molecular biology techniques, especially DNA and RNA extraction and PCR/qPCR are a plus. Some knowledge of immunology and experience in, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), would also be desirable.

  • Undertake and perform cutting-edge research
  • Assist with clinical trial related analyses and R&D
  • Participate in lab organisation and ordering activities
  • Acquire, develop and utilize scientific expertise in the fields of immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology
  • Respectfully share this expertise with other staff.
  • Assist in the preparation of results for publication and presentation.
